Enchanted Being

Oh, Douglas Shuler. I'm not sure what anatomy book he used, but man, it was wrong. This chick's head is like nine kinds of big; Serra Angel doesn't actually exist in three dimensional space. Rather, she lives in some kind of non-Euclidean space, where one can attack without tapping.

Artwork aside -- this is yet another almost-interesting creature, and another perfect example of Legends designers living in fear of the almighty aura. In our enlightened age, we know that the aura ought to be shunned, not feared. If we're going to make "auras matter" cards, they ought to be "auras gud," not "auras bad."

Alternatively, we could look at her as a truly enchanted being:

This card can't fetch just any aura -- Wizards has printed quite a few really soul-crushy auras, and it'd be an unpleasant deck that went, "turn 2, 10/10 trample annihilator" with consistency. Besides, if Academy Rector and company has taught us anything, it's that cards must be designed with upper bounds. We could probably get away with this fetching 4-drop auras and printing it at uncommon -- it'd be strong enough for constructed at that point, and a ton more flexible (seriously, go look at the difference between 3-drop and 4-drop auras, it's a huge jump in power). The reason I'm leery at going 4-drop auras at common is simple -- in a block with an emphasis on auras, this card'd be a beating in limited in multiples. In Legends alone, she'd often be a 5/5 flyer for WW and no drawback. Besides, even limited to 3-drops, she's a strong beater and tutor; she gets a host of neat-o auras, including Pariah and Prison Term.
